The Canadian Youth Chess Championship is one of the biggest stages for young chess players in Canada.

Every year, talented juniors from across the country come together to compete in their age categories, representing their provinces, families, coaches, communities.

At CYCC, every move matters.

Ishan Kalivarapu | Quebec | U10 Open | Age 9

4th Place at the 2026 Canadian Youth Chess Championship U10 Open

Undefeated National Performance:

5 Wins, 2 Draws, 0 Losses

At only 9 years old, Ishan delivered an extraordinary performance at CYCC 2026, finishing 4th in Canada in the U10 Open category while remaining unbeaten throughout all seven rounds.

Representing Quebec, Ishan showed the confidence, composure, plus fighting spirit required to compete at the highest youth level.

Ishan joined The Checkmate Club in August 2025 with a rating of 1033.

In only around 8 months of training, he transformed his game through structured coaching, tactical development, positional understanding, tournament preparation, detailed analysis.

His rating climbed to 1386, a remarkable improvement of 353 rating points.

At the national championship, Ishan produced an incredible score:

5 victories. 2 draws. 0 losses.

An undefeated national championship performance at age 9 is a remarkable achievement.

At 13 years old, Yugansh has achieved a transformation that represents the true power of dedication.

When he started training with The Checkmate Club, his rating was 1123.

After one year of committed training, his rating reached an outstanding 1826.

A gain of 703 rating points in just 12 months.

At only 9 years old, Vedhika has shown incredible determination and rapid growth.

When she began her journey with The Checkmate Club, her rating was 426.

After only 7 months of training, she reached 909, gaining an impressive 483 rating points.

Her progress represents much more than a rating increase.

It represents confidence gained.

Sidhek joined The Checkmate Club only two weeks before CYCC 2026 with a rating of 1099.

Despite the short preparation period, he approached every session with focus, commitment, enthusiasm.

Representing Ontario, Sidhek showed tremendous fighting spirit on the national stage.

One of his standout achievements was securing a hard fought draw against a 1522 rated opponent.

Holding a player more than 400 rating points higher after only two weeks of structured training reflects his determination, composure, plus ability to immediately apply new concepts.

His journey reminds us that every great chess story begins with a first step.
